Websites that use valid code have the best chance of placing high in search results.
The World Wide Web Consortium is the main international standards organization for the World Wide Web. It is an international community where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards.
While still a relatively new venture, the W3C sets forth standards as well as tools that can be used to check the validity of the code used throughout a website. This process of checking code is what is known as "validation".
Just because your page uses (W3C) validated code, it will not necessarily rank higher within Google search results. This is because so much of the web is not validated, and Google takes this into account when trying to return the most relevant data. But a valid website will have the best chance of being crawled properly, and if you have an optimized site, this is a feather in your cap.
